A Friendly Dragon Visits P1/2/3!

Last Monday, when we all arrived at school, we discovered a strange, glittery trail leading from our classroom doorway to a chair. On the chair we found some more sparkling sequins, feathers and a letter! It was no ordinary letter though, it was a scroll. It was tied up with a beautiful ribbon but it’s edges had been burnt. We were excited and confused at the same time. Mrs Turner opened it and read it to us. It was from a Friendly Dragon (that explained the burnt edges!) He told us he and his friends in FAIRYLAND were upset because no one read fairytales anymore and so FAIRYLAND was disappearing. All the children in P1/2/3 feel very sad about this and so we have decided to help. We have begun by reading more fairytales in class and if you look at our photos, you can see that we’ve made a beanstalk for Jack. Keep coming to look at our blog to see what else we have been doing and if the Friendly Dragon has visited us again: We’re  hoping so!

Whoops-a-Daisy Angel

Last week the Nursery and P1/2/3 performed Whoops-a-Dasiy Angel as their Christmas show.  The children sang and performed beautifully.  We were so pleased that Whoops-a-Daisy got it right in the end and that she was able to tell everyone about the Babay Jesus.

Autumn Activities

P1/2/3 took part in lots of Autumn activities last week. We wrote about autumn leaves, made hedgehogs from clay and Conker shells and made leaf rubbings to make wings and clothes for our Autumn fairies! As it was such a lovely day last Monday, we moved our classroom outside and designed a home for a Woodland Elf and made a snake from just leaves and a moss covered branch. Some of us went on a scavenger hunt to find different autumn things and we even made a leaf storm with the fallen leaves we found!

Dalry Church Visit

As part of our Religious Education work, learning about Christianity, P1/2/3 made a visit to Dalry Church last Wednesday. Dr Bartholomew kindly showed us around both the inside and outside of the church and we even got to have a close up look at some of the things used during a church service. Thank you again Dr Bartholomew for taking the time to show and tell us so much about what happens in a church.

Children in Need

The children came dressed in spots or as Pudsey on Friday 18th November.  They also brought a £1 donation to help support Children in Need 2011.  The Nursery also organised a bake sale of yummy cakes.  It was a fun day and we ‘Showed our Spots to help Raise Lots’ for Children in Need!

Halloween Fun!

It’s been a busy start to the term in P1/2/3 this week. Our new topic is weather, but we have begun our new term with some Halloween themed active Learning activities. We have been designing new witches’ brooms, investigating rhyming words in the book ‘Room on the Broom’ and making scary things from black and orange play-dough! We have also had great fun making Spooky Spider buns! What do you think of them?

Jamie wins the bird spotting competition!

Well done to Jamie in P3 who, together with his family, won the bird spotting competition last weekend. The competition was part of Dalry’s Bird Festival events.

Bird Festival Activities in P1/2/3

On Friday P1/2/3 made fat balls as part of the Bird Festival activities in their class.  They had to melt the lard first and then add it to the bird seed.  They then put the seed into containers to set before hanging the fat ball outside for the birds to eat.

P1/2/3 Make the bread for the Harvest Table

On Thursday P1/2/3 went to the HE room to make the bread for the Harvest table.  Ms Tranter gave them the instructions that they had to follow and the children worked in groups to help make the dough.   We then left it to rise and cooked it.  It tasted delicious!

Badger the Mystical Mutt Visits P1,2,3!

We had a very exciting visitor in P1,2,3 this morning! It was Badger the Mystical Mutt! He called in to visit us, on his way home from Wigton Book Festival. First of all he came in to class to wave hello, then whilst he had a quick snooze, his friend, Laura, read a chapter from a book she had written about him. We learned all about his adventures. After the story, Badger returned to see us and answered questions. He told us he used his mystical skills to fly, but he wasn’t very good at landing! Everyone enjoyed meeting Badger and Laura and we all gave him a hug or a ‘High-Five’ before he left.
